Melbourne 2004 Santa Crawl (Fri 10-Dec-04)

Dear Santas,

It's that time of year again when the city will be awash with a sea of red.

That's right - It's SANTA CRAWL time! This is the official email for the Santa Crawl 2004 locked in for Friday 10 December 2004. Do not be deceived by cheap imitations. If you have not been fortunate enough to partake previously, pay attention as you are a virgin Santa (refer virgin Santa section of this email). In brief, you'll be required to join with a few hundred other Santas all dressed up in $10 Santa suits and traipse around 6 pubs in South Melbourne. For the pics from previous crawls and the finer details of this years Santa Crawl

Consistent with last year, all Santas are asked to contribute $5-10  per Santa to Surf Live Saving Australia. There will be elves and  Santas around to accept your donation on the night. Arm bands will be  provided on the >night to those charitable paid up Santas. Last year over $2,000 was made on the night to assist SLSA with its work in keeping the beaches safe.

(Note: Head Santa and his helpers don't make a cracker, they just enjoy a beer) SO.... the tried and true Santa

Steps to follow are:

Step 1.

Contact all of your dodgy mates and spread the word like a rumour on the Scud's love life. All invited provided you're in a Santa suit. Flick it to your entire office list, don't hold back.

Step 2.

Buy a Santa suit (for the magic price of $10). This is compulsory. There's nothing worse than a half baked Santa. The appeal is in the extent of the commitment.

Suits all the way people; its only $10. It's a sea of red on 10 December, don't be left out! The Santa suits can be purchased from various places including, Priceline or Mr Liquidators in the Bourke St mall.

Previous years have seen the shops run out of suits. They will receive a call to remind them to stock up hard. Love their work. There are different brands but the beautiful thing is they all look the same. Its a magnificent standard 5 piece one-size-fits-all Santa suit complete with: beard, hat, pants, jacket, and belt. You'll look the goods, don't worry about that. You're now a Santa. Last year a bloke was forced to hire one as he couldn't buy one anywhere. Not $10, but a good effort all the same!! Head Santa will be making a bulk purchase of suits and selling them for $10, so if you are feeling charitable contact Head Santa to purchase your suit and all the profits will be handed over to SLSV suits - get in early.

Step 3

Refer to the above website (www.mmu.com.au), get a copy of the route map, and be on time. For those Santa's in the city, we start in the beer garden at the Great Western Hotel (crn Little Bourke St and King St) at 5.15-5.30pm, all Santas will then board the No.112 trams (the Santa tram) down Clarendon St at 6.00pm. For those Santas not in the city, be at Santa Stop 2 (Cricketers Club) by 6.30pm. Yarra Trams have been notified of our Santa logistical requirements andwill attempt to accommodate. Note, the Water Rat has been sold and is unlikely to be open so it is off the list and the Bells Hotel has been added - they are keen as mustard to have a couple of hundred santa drink their beer - God bless 'em!

Step 4.

Get a drink; one for Santa, one for the other Santas and one for your Santa self and go completely nuts.Note: The venues are all aware we are coming, and will be working

double time to ensure there are no grumpy Santa's having to endure excessive delays in service. Don't forget to say g'day to your friendly elf or Santa and throw them a fiver to SLSA. For any questions ring the Santa Hotline and ask for the Head Santa, he'll sort you out: 0417 360 390. Santa hard people.

The Head Santa.

PS. please remember to drink responsibly. We don't want any nasty Santa incidents!!

PPS. If you've heard about the Bunny Ball stay tuned, if not ask a Santa >hat the story is.....

Summary of the Santa Crawl for the virgin Santas.

Here's the deal. This is a superb night of pub crawling in the true Christmas spirit. The Santa crawl is an annual event originally established by BHP 5 years ago involving (traditionally) over 100 people all dressed up in $10 Santa suits. Last year we estimate we had over 300 Santa's and raised $2,000+ for SLSA, a superb reason to join the festivities. It starts with a tram ride out of the city down Clarendon St and works back through various pubs in Sth Melbourne towards the city. You've never seen anything like it. A sea of red identical Santas getting totally involved. A beautiful thing it is. If you're not thinking of getting on board and giving this a crack then I suggest you get in your car, head to the shop, buy full length mirror, and take a long hard look at yourself.
